Well, it’s Monday morning and it’s pouring with rain! How lucky we were for the BBQ yesterday.
Time for me to bid farewell to my ‘friends’ at the Best Western and move back to Tom’s in East Nashville. I say ‘friends’, because I’ve been staying here for 4 years and Stacey Jones (manager) and his crew couldn’t be more helpful. This year they’ve been happy to store banners and wine well before my check-in, and couldn’t be more accommodating and helpful during my stay. Hopefully the internet’ll work properly next time.
TenTen Songwriting
So, last official duty. A couple of years ago it occurred to me that as much as people are organising co-writes while they’re here, there’s just not a lot of time to sit down with industry professionals and chat about the scene and how it works. I approached old friends Barry and Jewel Coburn to see if we could organise a songwriting information – rather than writing, session. Jewel and Barry have been here for years and from the early days of involvement with Alan Jackson and then supporting Keith Urban, they’ve become one of Nashville’s preeminent indie publishing companies. Their most recent success is with staff writer Angelina Presley who’s topped the charts with her group The Pistol Annies, featuring Miranda Lambert.
They’ve been extremely generous in offering their writers and offices for our session, which is primarily a chance for our Telstra Road To Discovery winners – Kelly Menhennett and Andrew Redford.
Jewel has organised staff writer Clare Dunn to attend, and she’ll be joined by our old ‘mate’ Jerry Salley, who has co-written with countless Aussies ( 10 Aussie No.1 chart hits at last count).
So, that’s it. Over and out for now.
Luv yous all. Dobe xx
